This handy guide highlights the differences between our undergraduate Architecture courses, to help you choose the right route for you.

What is Architecture?

Architecture is the art, science and practice of building. It provides us with a sense of place, and helps bring the natural and designed worlds together. Our creative studio culture reflects industry and prepares you for it – we’re committed to developing emerging talent, and renowned for producing graduates who succeed in the sector, both at home and abroad.

Our courses

We offer three courses, all of which also have the option of a Foundation Year.

BArch (Hons) Architecture

This is the course to study if you want to become a qualified architect. The course is accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and is designed to help you develop your own approach and style.

BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design

This course enables you to explore the design and development of internal environments in relation to their overall architectural composition.

BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology

This course focuses on the link between concept and reality. You’ll learn to identify, assess and translate plans into effective, practical and sustainable building solutions.

What are the similarities between these courses?

  • Sandwich year - each of these three courses offer a placement year option
  • Accreditation* - our courses are accredited, ensuring they are up-to-date and industry-relevant
  • Industry links - all courses have great industry links and offer multiple opportunities to work on live projects
  • Student Showcase - all of these courses allow you to exhibit your work in your final year Student Showcase
  • No exams - you'll be assessed through a variety of other methods including coursework, project work, and much more

What is the difference between these courses?

  • Entry requirements - differ for each course and you need to submit a digital portfolio for our BArch Architecture and BA Interior Architecture and Design courses. You will not need to submit a portfolio for the BSc Architectural Technology course.

Foundation degrees

Your Foundation Year introduces you to the skills you’ll need to prepare you for your future studies. From perfecting freehand drawing and sketchbook use to learning about materials and fabrication, you’ll gain practical experience through real-world briefs and develop your confidence in presenting your ideas.

BArch (Hons) Architecture (with a Foundation Year)

Entry requirements

Each of our Foundation degrees has lower entry requirements to our main programmes. There is also no requirement to submit a portfolio for any of the Foundation courses.

The three courses have a shared Foundation Year, you will cover:
