Role
Sarah became Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at Nottingham Trent University in August 2024.
In this role, Sarah supports the Vice-Chancellor in regional engagement and development, and leads the Executive Deans of the Academic Schools.
Career overview
Sarah began her academic career as an adult educator teaching archaeology and medieval history for midlands universities. She spent many years at the University of Nottingham, becoming a Professor of Higher Education and finally Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience.
Research areas
As an early career academic, Sarah researched and published on the history and archaeology of medieval castles. This led her towards an interest in the development of academic disciplines and to research into antiquarianism and the emergence of archaeology and local history as fields of study. As a university leader, she has also researched and published on employability and education for sustainability.
External activity
Sarah represents the University at external events and on external bodies. She supports the Vice-Chancellor in the Universities for Nottingham Leaders’ Forum and in the development of NTU’s relationship with the East Midlands Combined County Authority. Sarah’s remit includes NTU’s work in Mansfield and Ashfield.
