One Health drivers of antibiotic resistant bacterial infections in rural Ugandan communities

Overview:

This project will combine microbiological and public health approaches to studying the prevalence and transmission routes of antibiotic resistant bacteria, and factors contributing to their spread, in rural Ugandan communities, to answer the following research questions: What human, animal, and environmental factors contribute to the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria in rural Ugandan communities, and what roles might CHWs play in mitigating these?

  • Funding: UK student / EU student (non-UK) / International student (non-EU) / Fully- funded
  • This is a fully funded PhD studentship opportunity, open for both UK and international applicants
  • Essential: Willingness to spend time in both the UK and Uganda during the project.
  • Essential: Ability to communicate in the Luganda language
  • Desirable: wet lab microbiology skills.
