I am inspired by the course leaders who all have so much experience in the subject. The course gives extensive insight into Youth Justice perspectives and the lectures are interactive and engaging.

More about Jordannah

Why NTU?

What inspired you to study your subject?

"I have a lot of relevant lived experience in the subject, and I am a mum with two teenage boys so the subject content is relatable."

Why did you choose your course and NTU?

"I am local to the area and was aware that NTU specialised in this subject. I was also aware that this is a high-performing University who are integral and very present in the city."

What’s your experience been like of your course so far?

"I am inspired by the course leaders who all have so much experience in the subject. The course gives extensive insight into Youth Justice perspectives and the lectures are interactive and engaging."

Have you been involved in any projects or extra-curricular activities that have supplemented your studies run through NTU?

"I have applied to do some voluntary work with an organisation which works with young people and restorative justice. I would like to get some up-to-date experience in working with young people."

What does Social Sciences mean to you?

"Social Sciences to me involves a thorough understanding of all social and societal groups, individuals, minds and behaviours that encompass our society."

Support

What do you think of the support available from tutors and staff at NTU?

"I am happy that if I need support, it is always signposted or offered by tutors and lecturers. There is also a great drop in support and guidance on how to contact stakeholders and develop further education or employment. I am also a disabled student and this extra support is appreciated too."

Outside of the Lecture Theatre

Did you find it easy to make friends and settle in at NTU?

"Being a mature student, I was apprehensive about studying alongside younger people as I thought I would be on my own. This was not the case and there are others my age, however, I have also formed some good friendships with the younger people too."

The Next Steps

What’s next for you after NTU?

"I would like to consider working in the Youth Justice field with a potential to study a part-time Masters degree in Social work or criminology."

How is NTU helping you to achieve your career goals?

"I have not studied further education for some years, however, NTU has been very welcoming and supportive in making me feel integrated and career-motivated again. I can now set some clear goals knowing that support and encouragement are available."

Advice

What top tips would you give anyone thinking about studying your course at NTU?

"Visit the open day and speak to the students, but also do some light research on the subject to ensure it is exactly what you would like to study. Also, consider future pathways and how best to ensure your expectations meet your choice."
