More about Aamir

"Compared to other universities I researched, the course seemed a lot more interactive, organised and interesting. In addition, the emphasis the course puts on students getting extensive experience working within schools appealed to me, I knew that the placements would be a valuable learning experience.

"A key strength of the course is the high quality teaching provided by our tutors in seminars. Every tutor has taught in a primary school, so you can be reassured that what you are being taught is relevant.

"The course structuring is another strength. We are mainly taught in seminars, which allows for more practical based learning opportunities, such as discussions and demonstrations. The smaller group sizes also mean that every student knows their tutor on a personal basis; it is a lot easier to ask questions and make suggestions when you are in a classroom setting than a dark lecture theatre!

"Another strength is the school placements. Working as a trainee teacher in school allows you to apply the skills you develop in seminars in a real life classroom. The Nottingham Institute of Education worked hard to ensure that you experienced working in a wide variety of schools, so that every year your teaching skills and confidence increase massively.

"In addition, in Year Three there is a special placement, where you have the opportunity to work overseas as a teacher. If you prefer, you can stay in the UK and gain experience in other educational institutions.

"Every year we participate in a Values Week, this involves attending special workshops focusing on topics relevant to teaching. This week is also used to raise money for a chosen children's charity, both the staff and students are proud to participate in such a worthwhile event. All of these projects are fantastic learning experiences and allow you to meet everybody on the course, and make lots of new friends.

"I intend to become a primary school teacher after qualifying. It is encouraging to know that 100% of students from my course are appointed teaching jobs after graduating. This is a testament to the University and the Primary Education course."
