More about Tamara

Tamara studied BA (Hons) Business Management and Marketing.

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

NTU's student choice award strongly influenced my decision to choose the university, as it showcased NTU's dedication to delivering a good student experience. Moreover, I studied business in college and absolutely enjoyed it, which is why I decided to pursue the Business Management and Marketing course at NTU. I was confident that this course would prepare me with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in my future career.

What has stood out about Nottingham Business School?

One standout feature of Nottingham Business School (NBS) is its focus on providing students with support, practical skills and real-world exposure in the business industry. For example, the Developing Professional Impact module offers great hands-on experience. My team had the opportunity to create and present a consultancy slide for a local business, aiding them in enhancing their marketing strategy. I found this course incredibly valuable because it provided me with the opportunity to put my theoretical knowledge into practical use.

During my placement year at Boeing as a procurement agent intern, my responsibilities included procuring personal protective equipment (PPE), miscellaneous items and tooling requirements. This experience was invaluable as it provided me with the opportunity to directly apply the knowledge and skills acquired during my university studies in a practical setting.

How would you rate the course facilities and why?

The course facilities at NBS are really great and convenient. The Newton building and Library provides us students with a wide range of study spaces and resources to help us with our assignments. Also, I really enjoyed the NBS link lounge, where you can book a meeting with your course tutor to ask questions about your research projects and assignments. NTU also has various student unions and clubs, offering us the opportunity to get involved in projects and hobbies that contribute to our overall continuous professional development and wellbeing.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

What I enjoy the most about my course is NTU's dedication to fostering students' academic progression. As previously mentioned, the Developing Professional Impact module equips us with essential knowledge and skills for both our careers and daily lives. It encourages us to reflect on our university journey, identifying areas for improvement and growth. Personally, I've found this module to be interesting and beneficial for my overall self-development.

Have you taken part in academic mentoring? What has this role involved?

Participating in academic mentoring has greatly enhanced my professional development. My mentor, with expertise in procurement, a role I worked in during my placement year, has provided valuable guidance. Through mentoring sessions, I've acquired essential procurement skills alongside developing important competencies like time management, communication, presentation, negotiation, emotional intelligence and teamwork. This opportunity not only helped me develop my supply chain skills but also provided me with the support of a mentor who I can turn to for assistance and guidance whenever needed.

Have you had the option to personalise your course and experience at Nottingham Business School? How has this benefitted your studies?

Yes, I've had the opportunity to select specific modules like global supply chain management. In my second year, I opted to study supply chain because I knew I would be pursuing a placement year in that field. I believed that gaining a deeper understanding of supply chain would be beneficial for my future career.

Can you tell us a bit about your placement?

During my placement year at Boeing as a procurement agent intern, my responsibilities included procuring personal protective equipment (PPE), miscellaneous items and tooling requirements. This experience was invaluable as it provided me with the opportunity to directly apply the knowledge and skills acquired during my university studies in a practical setting.

Do you have any advice for future students on how they can make the most of their time at NBS?

Future NBS students can make the most of their time by taking advantage of the university's support services to enhance their academic journey, such as booking one-on-one sessions at the library and participating in academic retreats.
