Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose Nottingham Trent University (NTU) for my Business Management and Human Resources course because of a number of factors that are compatible with my academic and professional objectives. NTU has an outstanding record for excellence in business education, which not only demonstrates the university's commitment to academic excellence, but it also indicates the high quality of education and the curriculum's relevance to industry standards. The course's practical focus, which provided hands-on experience and skills directly applicable to the business and human resources sectors, helped to solidify my decision. Furthermore, NTU's strong industry connections and emphasis on career support, combined with its welcoming environment, made it stand out to me. Nottingham as a city and area is a special place and its vibrant atmosphere and opportunities for personal and professional development only strengthened my decision to attend NTU for my academic career.

What has stood out about Nottingham Business School?

One of the highlights for me has been the faculty and staff; my principal lecturer and other seminar leaders have been extremely helpful in guiding me through my degree journey. Furthermore, NBS provides a wide range of opportunities to all students. I have thoroughly enjoyed extracurricular activities such as attending industry conferences, guest speakers, and programmes such as industry mentoring, which have had a significant impact on both my personal development and my professional prospects.

Having the freedom to tailor my learning experience to topics that I am passionate about has not only deepened my understanding of those subjects, but also allowed me to delve deeper into them. This personalised approach to education has improved my overall academic experience and provided me with specialised knowledge and skills that will help me in my future career.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

My favourite aspect of my Business Management and Human Resources course is the opportunity to interact with professionals who can provide insight into my potential career path. These interactions provide me with insight into the real-world applications of my studies and illuminate the path to achieving my professional objectives. I appreciate how the curriculum goes beyond theoretical concepts, focusing on practical applications relevant to future workplaces, particularly in the field of human resources. This approach ensures that every lesson learned is directly applicable to my future career goals, enriching my educational experience and providing me with the skills I need to succeed in the field.

How would you rate the course facilities and why?

The facilities provided by NTU and NBS are exceptional and surpassed my initial expectations. From comfortable and accessible lecture halls and seminar rooms equipped with technology to create a fluid environment to learning and libraries stocked with extensive resources, NTU and NBS doesn't miss out in providing students with the tools they need to excel in their academic pursuits. The campus itself is carefully designed to help make an effective learning environment, with modern study spaces, collaborative areas, and recreational facilities that cater to diverse student needs. The university's commitment to student support is evident through its comprehensive range of services, including academic advising and career development programs.

Have you taken part in the NBS mentoring programme? What has this role involved?

I participated in the NBS mentoring programme where I was connected with an industry professional. Throughout the duration of the programme, Alison (my mentor) and I engaged in conversations that covered a wide range of HR and personal career related topics. Every session passed on valuable insights, such as ethical considerations, working around career challenges and effective interviewing techniques, which I will continually apply as I commence my professional journey.

With Alison's mentorship, I acquired the skills needed to optimise my CV and advertise my accomplishments, as well as learning how to remain updated on developments within my field. The meetings helped to increase my professional confidence and explained to me the function of technology in human resources. This provided valuable insights that will undeniably influence my strategies when confronted with obstacles in the workplace.

It has been a privilege to be a part of the NBS Mentoring Programme; it has bestowed me with the wisdom and self-assurance necessary to navigate the intricacies of the business world. The opportunity to learn and develop throughout this programme, as well as Alison's assistance throughout, is something for which I am very grateful.

Have you had the option to personalise your course and experience at Nottingham Business School? How has this benefitted your studies?

In my second and third year, I had the opportunity to choose two specific modules from the course. This option has been extremely beneficial, as studying topics related to my interests has significantly increased my motivation and engagement. Having the freedom to tailor my learning experience to topics that I am passionate about has not only deepened my understanding of those subjects, but also allowed me to delve deeper into them. This personalised approach to education has improved my overall academic experience and provided me with specialised knowledge and skills that will help me in my future career.

Do you have any advice for future students on how they can make the most of their time at NBS?

My advice to future Nottingham Business School students is to make sure that the area of business they choose resonates with a part of themselves and matches their interests. When you are enthusiastic about what you are studying, the learning process becomes a two-way street in which you can both contribute and receive information. This alignment promotes deeper levels of engagement and motivation, resulting in a more fulfilling educational experience.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Welcoming, vibrant, and diverse.

How have you found Nottingham as a student city?

As a student, I found Nottingham to be a very dynamic and welcoming city. Its vibrant atmosphere, diverse culture, and thriving nightlife make it a desirable place to live and study. The city has a diverse range of amenities and attractions for students, from cosy cafes and quirky shops to lively music venues and cultural events. Nottingham's central location also makes it easy to get around, allowing you to explore beyond the city. Overall, my student experience in Nottingham has been fantastic, and I've thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in all that this vibrant city has to offer.

Did you find it easy to make friends at NTU?

Yes, I found it easy to make friends at NTU. Participating in various activities, such as joining sports clubs and societies, interacting with people I lived with, and taking part in course-related activities, provided numerous opportunities to meet new people. Putting myself out there and actively seeking opportunities to connect with others helped me grow my social circle and form meaningful friendships.

What do you think of the support available at NTU?

The support available at NTU, including course staff, student support services, the Employability team, and global lounges, is exceptional. From academic guidance and career advice to assistance with personal challenges, NTU offers comprehensive support tailored to students' needs. The Employability team provides valuable resources and opportunities for career development, while global lounges foster a sense of community among international students. Overall, NTU's commitment to student welfare and success is evident through its robust support network.

What's next for you after NTU?

My aim is to stay in Nottingham and pursue a career in HR or Management related job roles, in the area of the midlands and possibly endeavour to do my masters at NTU in the future.

Has the employability team helped you plan for life beyond NTU?

Yes, the employability team at NTU has been very helpful in preparing me for life after university. They provided invaluable career development, job search, and professional skill building advice through workshops, one-on-one consultations, and networking events. Their help has given me the tools and confidence I need to successfully transition from student life to the workforce. The Employability team's assistance and resources have left me feeling well-prepared and empowered to pursue my career goals.
