More about Rebekah

Rebekah studied BA (Hons) Business Management and Marketing.

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I instantly knew that I wanted to come to NTU after attending an insightful open day, from having a full tour of the amazing facilities and engaging with the current students, I knew that NTU was the perfect university for me. I wanted to study BA (Hons) Business Management and Marketing due to its dual nature of exploring both management and marketing aspects of the business profession. Additionally, I was confident that the renowned business management program status at Nottingham Business School (NBS) would provide me with a comprehensive curriculum to enhance my ability to navigate the ever-changing business landscape.

What has stood out about Nottingham Business School?

NTU and NBS are known for their impeccable industry connections, and these established relationships have provided students with incredible hands-on experiences through collaborations, networking opportunities, and insightful guest lectures from industry professionals. Additionally, the teaching quality and level of support have been amazing across my four years at NTU. The events NBS has facilitated have been extremely beneficial in providing a solid foundation of what is to be expected in the professional world.

My placement year was spent at The Walt Disney Company! I moved to London and spent twelve months as an EMEA Content Marketing Intern within the Disney+ marketing team. I had the greatest year ever there, I had the opportunity to work on some world-class campaigns, enhanced my innovative and creative ability, and also made and maintained a variety of relationships along the way.

How would you rate the course facilities and why?

The facilities at NBS are 10/10! There are endless study areas for all students to utilise and to make the most of their independent learning time. The Newton Building is beautiful and by far the most modern and recognisable building out of them all. I also think the central location makes it very easy to access and navigate.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

My course has been so brilliant in providing endless opportunities whether this be personal or professional and NBS always put the needs of the students first. I will always treasure the CPD activities that I have experienced during my time here, in particular the iconic trip to Thornbridge with other students across NBS. Additionally, I love how much NBS emphasises the importance of employability. My placement year was so important, and was a key focus as it is fundamental to gaining the relevant experience to build a good foundation to succeed in a business-orientated career.

Have you taken part in academic mentoring? What has this role involved?

Yes! I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a CERT mentor, this role involved being a point of contact for the upcoming first-year students. I conducted weekly catch-ups, and well-being checks with my mentees and signposted them to relevant contacts where needed. I loved being able to provide advice to the students following my experiences moving to a brand new city and starting my university journey.

Have you had the option to personalise your course and experience at Nottingham Business School? How has this benefitted your studies?

Yes! I think being able to take a year out to do a placement in industry has been one of the greatest elements of the course. Additionally being provided an array of optional modules has been great in modifying my education towards what is relevant to my future career prospects. These opportunities have been extremely beneficial as I have been able to maintain the networks and relationships that I have built from engaging in such activities.

Can you tell us a bit about your placement?

My placement year was spent at The Walt Disney Company! I moved to London and spent twelve months as an EMEA Content Marketing Intern within the Disney+ marketing team. I had the greatest year ever there, I had the opportunity to work on some world-class campaigns, enhanced my innovative and creative ability, and also made and maintained a variety of relationships along the way. Having this very hands-on experience has illuminated my desire to remain in the marketing sector post-graduation. Additionally, the transition back to NTU was seamless due to continuing that ‘9-5’ working routine allowing me to keep on top of my studies.

Do you have any advice for future students on how they can make the most of their time at NBS?

My advice to all prospective students is to always take on the opportunities that are presented to you as these may provide you with experiences and future opportunities that won’t be offered anywhere else! I also think it is so important to be engaged in the activities that the university has to offer, not only academically but also socially. Additionally, being proactive by actively seeking guidance from the employability team and your personal tutors, who will help you navigate the steps needed to climb your professional ladder. I also think putting yourself forward for roles such as the Academic Course Representative or School Officer is a great way to not only be the voice for your fellow students but also to leave a mark in NBS and eventually leave feeling like you have positively contributed to its ongoing improvement.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

This is such a tough question! But in three words, Nottingham to me is vibrant, inclusive, and dynamic!

How have you found Nottingham as a student city?

I have loved every moment of being a student at Nottingham! I don’t think there is anywhere else that could top the buzzing student life here. Everywhere you go there is something new and cool to do and the people are just filled with excitement and creative flair. I also love that everywhere is pretty much walking distance from the city, despite the hills, I definitely get my daily steps in! The Student Union is the heart of being an NTU student, from holding gigs and concerts from the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Jorja Smith, to the unforgettable Saturdays spent at District, I don’t think the student experience could be beaten anywhere else.

Did you find it easy to make friends at NTU?

Due to my extrovert nature, I didn’t find it difficult to make friends during my time at NTU. I do think that my role as the Social Secretary for The Cocktail Society helped expand my network and also helped me create some amazing bonds. I think that being part of communities that are outside of the academic structure is a great way to build friendships and find people with similar interests to you. Especially as a first year student, moving to a new city with new people is quite daunting so being involved in these groups will definitely help your university experience.

What do you think of the support available at NTU?

I think that the support made available at NTU is top-notch! All of the tutors and seminar teachers go above and beyond to help prepare students for their professional careers. I think that it is wonderful that NTU allows students to build strong personal relationships with their staff, it makes the university experience feel unique and special. Additionally, the NTU Employability team provides all students with endless guidance and resources to help them with their future prospects. I couldn't tell you how many times I have used CV360 before sending off job applications!

What's next for you after NTU?

After graduating from NTU, I hope to gain a graduate role within the marketing remit, whether this will be at The Walt Disney Company again or going down the marketing agency route, I aim to be successful in whatever endeavours I get involved in. Additionally, I hope to keep in contact with my NTU network wherever possible and provide any additional advice to final-year students when their time comes to enter the working world. Lastly, I want to keep running my small business venture of offering BIAB and gel nails, and hopefully build up my clientele in whatever new location I end up in following graduation!
