Conferences

The aim of this conference is to bring together practitioners and academics to share their work and build connections for future projects. This is an in-person event, for anyone active in practitioner research, collaborative lesson research/lesson study. We will provide the opportunity to share experiences of successes and challenges, alongside being stimulated by engaging with the work of others. The conference will run a range of panel discussions, posters, and presentations throughout the day.

Keynote speaker

As part of challenging our thinking, and encouraging a research culture we are delighted to announce that our Keynote Speaker will be Prof Gert Biesta - ‘How much research does teaching need? A case for thoughtfulness.’

Gert Biesta

Gert Biesta is Professor of Educational Theory and Pedagogy at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, where he co-leads the research hub on teacher education, curriculum and pedagogy, and Professor of Public Education in the Centre for Public Education and Pedagogy, Maynooth University, Ireland. He is a member of the Education Council of the Netherlands, the advisory body for the Dutch government and parliament. Recent books include, Educational Research: An Unorthodox Introduction (Bloomsbury, 2020) and World-Centred Education: A View for the Present (Routledge, 2021).

There are many education scholars and policy makers who argue that with more research teaching will become better. Even more so, they advocate that teachers themselves should engage in research, particularly so that research can stay close to the practice where it is supposed to make a difference. In my presentation I will raise some questions about these ways of thinking, particularly in order to explore where and how research can help and where it can get in the way of meaningful educational practice.
