Professor Gary Jones Inaugural Lecture

A CLASSIC tale of how language and memory are shaped by linguistic experience

Gary Jones
Networking | Public lectures

In this lecture, Professor Gary Jones will present a view of children’s language learning that combines children’s exposure to language with a simple way of learning from the language. As it turns out, one can get quite far in explaining a variety of language phenomena this way. Moreover, it also explains performance on archetypal memory tasks, suggesting that these too can be explained from linguistic experience rather than any bespoke mechanism.
