Event details

Dark skies and light pollution are important topics that have very wide-reaching impact. Unfortunately this message gets lost and misunderstood in many instances resulting in either rejecting it as to impractical or installing very bad lighting solutions often using cheap LEDs.

This month one of our undergraduate students Emily Williams (NTU) will talk about her light pollution project part funded by you, our NTU observatory audience. She has been working over the past weeks on an exciting lighting project at our NTU Southgate car park to monitor and communicate light pollution and its impact. Some of you will have already followed her progress on our Facebook page. In her talk Light pollution and Dark Skies - Sustainable Lighting on Clifton Campus E Williams will introduce the issues surrounding light pollution and dark skies, including the challenges of risk, safety, carbon footprint and biodiversity. She will also present her results and outline what is still to come.

Booking is required for this event while attending in person. While attending, you consent to filming, photography, and sound recording – which may include you as a member of the audience – and its use in publication or advertising distribution, either printed or online, without payment or copyright.

This event is taking place as a hybrid event on NTU campus. This will allow a flexible way of attending. You are currently booking to attend virtually and only the talk component. A link to the material on YouTube will be emailed to everyone who is attending virtually in their confirmation email. We will be happy to answer questions posted as response to the video over the following days. So do keep booking onto this event. If you haven't booked you might need to wait a while before you can see it.

You can also attend the event in person and enter our planetarium but would need to book the Open Dome IN PERSON event to purchase your ticket.
