Rob teaches violin as part of the NTU Music department.

Career overview

Rob is a full-time violinist, teacher, improviser and arranger specialising in gypsy-jazz, classical and rock / pop.

He studied classical violin and piano at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester for five years. He spent two years as leader of the Lincolnshire Youth Symphony Orchestra touring Austria, Germany and Tuscany.

Currently Rob plays over 250 shows a year throughout the UK and Europe with his bands Manière des Bohémiens (jazz), Captain Dangerous (indie), the Activators (ska-reggae) and the Derventio Quartet (classical). Rob has made appearances at Glastonbury Festival, the River Cottage, Bestival and Port Eliot Literary Festival.

In between shows, Rob enjoys teaching at all ages and abilities, from beginners to diploma students. He has a lot of energy and enthusiasm for music which is reflected in both his stage performances and teaching.
