Overview

This research group draws together staff from the broadest range of curriculum specialisms, phases and sectors. The group is united in their collegiate interest in exploring issues relating to teaching, learning, pedagogy, curriculum and examining how practice, in its many forms, is developed. Practitioner and action research forms an important part of the groups approach to developing practice.

Specific activity from the group includes:

  • STEM education including the development of resources and a pedagogy for the teaching of superconductivity for both undergraduate and pre-university physics students
  • Science education including European Union Funded FP7 Programmes MOSEM, MOSEM2 and SECURE projects
  • Archeo-astronomy in education
  • Music education including an international Experimental Music in Schools Project
  • The Teaching Reading and Writing Links (TRAWL) Project
  • collaborative work with agencies such as Creative Partnerships
  • assessment for Learning (AFL)
  • early years and issues relating to childhood
  • technology in education
  • the importance of the mentor relationships during different stages of the teacher's career development
  • the response of secondary subjects to a changing curriculum
  • learning and teaching in higher education
  • the curriculum in an international perspective.
