Filmmaking and Animation graduates celebrated at the Royal Television Society Midlands Student Awards 2024

It was a stellar night for our screen-based courses earlier this week, as NTU Filmmaking and Animation graduates won multiple awards at the Royal Television Society’s (RTS) Midlands Student Awards 2024.

The awards, which recognise emerging creative talent in the Midlands, were presented at an evening ceremony at IET Birmingham on 17 April, hosted by Radio 1 Xtra presenter and actor Theo Johnson.

NTU graduates have won the RTS Animation Award for three years running now, as well as receiving the ‘Best in Show’ Sir Lenny Henry Award for 2022 and 2023. Our 2023 Animation graduates continued this trend for 2024, making us proud with nominations for Alex Parsons’ The Egg Sandwich and a Best Animation award forHarry Lenton’s You Are Not Made of Flesh, which also received an honourable mention from Sir Lenny Henry himself.

2023 BA (Hons) Filmmaking graduate, Robyn Hargreaves, went on to win the craft award for Sound for Voices, with a further award scooped by fellow Filmmaking graduates Tom Harper, Josh Fener, Sam Greenhill and Jacek Ubych, who won Best Entertainment and Comedy Drama for Will Smith’s Wicked Band.

These exceptional films - You Are Not Made of Flesh and Will Smith’s Wicked Band - will now represent NTU as long-list nominees for the RTS National Awards in June, which will take place at London’s National Film and Television School (NFTS).

Our undergraduate Filmmaking and Animation courses will have a home in our new Design & Digital Arts building from September, benefitting from the new cutting-edge facilities and industry standard tech alongside Graphic Design, Illustration, Film Technology, Television Production and new courses including BA (Hons) Games Art, BSc (Hons) Games Design, BA (Hons) Visual Effects Art and BSc (Hons) Visual Effects Technical Direction.
