If you do consider applying for the second round of Nottingham Civic Exchange’s Policy Fellowships programme which starts in the new academic year.

Building on our current cohorts experiences as Policy Fellows we are pleased to announce that we are seeking people who want to use their ideas and knowledge to make a difference to policy which aims to help improve society. Building on our expertise and desire to maximise the work of colleagues across the School of Social Science we are inviting up to three Social Science colleagues to promote and develop policy engagement and impact from their work. By enhancing the space for colleagues to deliver policy and civic impact using an established and successful government fellowship model we hope to highlight and share the great research and expertise we have in the school.

Our NCE Policy Fellows will be offered planning and coaching support alongside capacity building funding to help fellows develop meaningful engagement with policymakers. You will also be part of a small network of Policy Fellows who can support each other and engage with our developing Policy Engagement Group funded through IKEP that is running across NTU.

If you are a civic partner looking to boost the impact of your work do not forget we can work with you too, but this project is just for NTU Social Science staff this time around.

NCE will support successful Fellows to refine their engagement and address the policy challenges they encounter through their work. We will identify and explore different approaches to engagement and target work based on where policy fellows are coming from and aiming to. Researchers will be supported to develop new and deeper links beyond academia which will enable knowledge exchange and individual skills development whilst boosting the opportunity to make a difference. If this sounds interesting, we hope you will consider applying.

Consider applying for the Policy Fellowship to develop your policy engagement skills such as:

  • hosting workshops/roundtables with policy makers
  • creating and sharing policy briefs
  • undertaking longer term impact and KE (Knowledge Exchange) planning
  • stakeholder mapping and engagement
  • publishing policy focused reports and blog outputs
  • developing select committee submissions

The Fellowships will run from September 2024 until the end of the academic year. To apply you simply need to consider and complete the short online application form (available via the guidance document) which seeks to understand your ideas, policy awareness and expertise. Successful candidates and proposed project focuses will be shared via the NCE news. To find out more please view our NCE Policy Fellowship application guide and contact NCE if you have any questions.
