My alumni story: Alessandra Centorbi

Alessandra explains how a degree in Decorative Arts took her on an artistic journey to work as a ceramicist in Italy.

“My name is Alessandra Centorbi and I graduated back in 2021 with a degree in BA (Hons) Decorative Arts.

“Since graduating, I have kept developing my practice as a ceramicist and found a new path into set design and research. Last September, I was selected for an artistic research residency in Fabrica, a research centre in Italy.

“The residency lasted six months, and I recently finished with a final show called Blooming in Embers, where I showcased the results of my research that focused on an island called Tierra del Fuego, located in the south of Chile and Argentina.

“I wanted to share this with you because during my studies, we were always encouraged to celebrate our achievements. When I started my degree, my only previous experience was as a painter.

"I never thought my career would change so much, but having access to all the facilities and workshops available at NTU, gave me the confidence and freedom to experiment with different materials.

“I recently applied to study a PhD at NTU in Design for Performance in the Metaverse.

I remain so grateful for the foundation NTU has provided. Thank you!”
