Learn a new skill with Brackenhurst short courses

The School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences at Nottingham Trent University is offering introductory level courses delivered by expert tutors both in person at Brackenhurst Campus and online. These short courses provide adult learners with the chance to gain valuable new skills in a university setting, to either pursue a new hobby or explore a future career change.

There are currently a range of short courses available to spark the imagination such as, garden design, planting design, canine nutrition and puppy training. No prior knowledge or qualifications are needed to attend, and these have all been designed for beginners. Courses range from a single day to in the evenings sessions over a 6-week period, providing flexibility to access learning.

In addition to these short courses, there are also unique ‘experience days’ available in summer 2024 for 15 - 17 year olds. These experience days will give students the rare opportunity to work alongside the expert staff at the Brackenhurst Animal Unit. Students will gain new skills relating to the care and handling of different types of animals and species. These experience days provide a fun and engaging holiday activity for those who are interested in or simply have a passion for animals.

Michelle Collard, Commercial Services Manager for the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences said: “Our new short courses offer members of the public a fantastic opportunity to access some of our academic expertise at non-degree level, in a friendly and relaxed learning environment. We want to remove the barriers to accessing university knowledge and open up opportunities for our local community”.

Over the course of this academic year further short courses will be added, so learners are encouraged to sign up to the mailing list on the Brackenhurst Short Courses website below to be notified about future new short course announcements.
