Empowering colleagues to engage with policy

We're thrilled to announce this initiative that's set to transform the landscape of policy and civic impact. Nottingham Civic Exchange (NCE), the think tank associated with Nottingham Trent University (NTU), is launching the NCE Policy Fellowship project in the upcoming academic year (2023/24). This program is open to all School colleagues up to Associate Professor level and is set to run for one academic year. The aim is to enhance knowledge exchange, forge connections, and support innovative research, practice, and scholarly opportunities.

Bridging the gap between research and policy

Since our inception in 2017, Nottingham Civic Exchange has been at the forefront of reshaping how we view social science issues. Operating within NTU's School of Social Sciences, we collaborate closely with departments and leverage research expertise to drive evidence-based change. We are here to work with policy fellows and colleagues at school of social sciences, helping them tap into our wealth of knowledge and expertise. Whether you're seeking fresh perspectives or practical project implementation, NCE is your navigator.

The Policy Fellowship Journey: A Roadmap to Impact

The successful policy fellows for this year are Richard Machin, Niamh McNamara, and Michele Grigolo. With the support of NCE, the three fellows will embark on a journey of discovery and impact. It builds upon their existing research, expertise, and external networks to tackle their specific policy challenges. We'll work hand-in-hand with each fellow to refine their approach, develop a customized plan for the year, and ultimately, produce tangible outcomes.

As a social welfare policy fellow will work with colleagues during the general election cycle, to gain a deeper understanding of this process, and to contribute to policy debates and knowledge contribution.

Informing policy and care pathways for people recovering from eating disorders and their families, to understand how to appropriately the research is relevant policymakers at national level to steer conversation around the priorities raised in my research and by local stakeholders.

Co-producing Human Rights in Nottingham, the fellowship would be key towards seeking to both consolidate existing contacts and attract new stakeholders into the Human Rights City process.

Funding for Impact

To support the fellowship journey, a development budget of up to £3,000 per Policy Fellow will be provided. This budget covers event attendance, in-person meetings with partners, and hosting engagement activities.

Dynamic Engagement and Tangible Outcomes

Policy fellows can expect a dynamic experience, involving a range of engagement activities and goals. From hosting workshops and roundtables with policy makers to creating and disseminating policy briefs, our fellows are poised to shape the future of policy. Flexibility is key, given the often-unpredictable nature of the policy-making environment. Initial plans serve as a framework, ready to adapt as needed.

Stay tuned to for the exciting conclusion to our policy fellowship journey, as we look forward to unveiling the transformative outcomes that lie ahead.
