Student Visa, Graduate Route Visa, Skilled Worker Visa - does your organisation know the difference?

Many businesses are already benefitting from the diverse experience and attributes that an international student/graduate can bring to a workforce. However, we understand since the recent immigration and visa route changes, that there are lots of organisations still missing out on the opportunity to engage with these cohorts.

On behalf of the Midlands International Group, NTU hosted a business support webinar attended by over 130 professionals. These employers were looking to expand their knowledge around visa regulations and routes to recruit international talent.

The Midlands International Group are a collection of regional UK universities dedicated to helping international student careers.

"We recognise the complexities and concerns which can arise for employers wanting to hire international students and graduates, but we are also firmly committed to supporting all our students to gain the experience and careers they aspire to."

In response to feedback and common queries from employer partners, the group put together a free information event with the aim of providing a better understanding of the processes, costs, and benefits of the main visa routes.

Joel Alex from the NTU Employer Engagement Team delivered the session, in collaboration with immigration law specialist, Paragon Law. Thal Vasishta (CEO) and Kirin Abbas (Director) shared their expertise, along with practical scenario examples. NTU alumni, Seema Nair, who is the Founder and CEO of CalibreCode Solutions, also joined the session to talk about her experiences hiring international student talent via a placement, and the Graduate Route Visa.

To maximise the reach of the event, each Midlands International Group university member promoted the session to their business networks. At NTU, the event was offered to employers booked to attend the upcoming Careers Fair series, to support their preparations for engaging with diverse student and graduate talent. It was also shared via the NTU Business and Employers social media channels and monthly newsletter.

The webinar recording is available here and the presentation slides from Paragon Law can also be downloaded (information correct as of 12.09.2023).
