NTU named as top 100 institution in the global THE Impact Rankings 2023

Nottingham Trent University is now a top 100 institution in the global Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

THE Impact Ranking

The rankings are the only performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and NTU has risen to joint 86th of 1,591 institutions worldwide.

Institutions submit evidence to show how they are contributing to the SDGs which are a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

The SDGs include ‘Zero Hunger’, ‘Good Health and Wellbeing’, ‘Clean Water and Sanitation’, ‘Affordable and Clean Energy’, ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’, ‘Reduce Inequality’, ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’ and ‘Climate Action’.

As part of the rankings, THE provide comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.

This year NTU saw its submission for ten SDGs place in the top 100 institutions, with ‘Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions’ and ‘Partnership for the Goals’ achieving top 20 positions.

The university’s rise into the top 100 comes despite an increase of 13% in the number of institutions ranking. NTU was ranked 101-200 in the 2022 table.

Nottingham Trent University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Edward Peck, said: “Embracing Sustainability is a theme we added to our strategic agenda in 2020 and this ranking is external confirmation that we are making progress with our ambition and renews our commitment to take the journey that still lies ahead.”

Umesh Desai, Director of Estates, said: “It is brilliant to see our THE Impact Ranking improve year on year. It’s a testament to the hard work of colleagues and students in addressing the United Nation’s SDGs and driving forward NTU’s sustainability agenda.”
