A royal invitation for our Head of Further Education

Our Head of Further Education, Pamela Ellis, received the honour of a lifetime when she was nominated by the Department for Education to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, hosted by King Charles III.

Pamela Ellis has dedicated 43 years to working in education and has been an integral part of the success of the Further Education team at Brackenhurst.

She joined in 2011 as an FE Adviser, shortly moving into the role of Deputy Head, and finally the Head of FE in 2012.

After 12 years at Brackenhurst, Pamela will be retiring this September. Some of her proudest moments at Brackenhurst have been: the college achieving their first ‘good’ grade from OFSTED which the staff all worked incredibly hard towards; having 93% of their students progress into jobs or attend university; and seeing the agriculture students win their lawnmower race at the county show.

Pamela commented: “There are so many things I am proud of which could not be achieved without the amazing team at Brackenhurst.

"The students are at the heart of everything we do. When a student steps onto the stage at the FE Awards to receive their qualification, especially those who have needed encouragement and support it makes me so proud.

“I am delighted to be selected by the DfE for my work with children and in education to attend the Kings Garden Party on the 3 May to celebrate his coronation. I feel very honoured to have received the invitation. I have loved every minute of my 43 years of working in education.

"The biggest challenge now is finding a hat to suit my curly hair!”
