These awards are held yearly and aim to celebrate student journalism talent across the UK and Ireland with 24 categories covered including Best Publication, Best News Story and Best Newspaper Design amongst many more.

Held at the University of Glasgow, this year yielded 1,200 entries making it the UK’s biggest journalism awards. Nominations were judged by top names in the industry with Best Student Photographer judged by Jeff Mitchell, photographer at Getty Images.

The award required students to submit three photographs and a supporting statement of up to 300 words. Take a look at Reagan’s winning images below:

Speaking on his amazing achievement, Reagan commented: "Winning a journalism award is something I dreamt of when I started three years ago, and I am so thrilled that it materialises especially as an international student.”

“It is just amazing seeing your photographs stand out and being recognised by an expert judge from Getty images after a year of input - I even cried when I called my parents back in Hong Kong!”

"This is however impossible without the help from my friends at Platform Magazine, where we all endeavour to document student life and events on and off campus in Nottingham. From Varsity to the Queen's death, from Reclaim the Night marches to Nottingham's famous Goose Fair, we have all wanted to bring students everything latest about Nottingham and I am so glad my photographs added colour to our coverage and captured some of the decisive moments.”

"The journalism course really equips me with the skills required by the industry. The lecturers are also extremely helpful and willing to offer advice. Now with this award, I feel more confident to look for jobs and pursue a career of photojournalism."
