NTU invites local businesses to explore the benefits of apprenticeships

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is hosting a series of events for local businesses to discover more about apprenticeships as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2023 (6-12 February).

National Apprenticeship Week at NTU
National Apprenticeship Week returns from 6 -12 February 2023 with a series of in-person and online events taking place at NTU and across the UK over the seven-day period

Businesses are invited to an online discovery event on 8 February designed to help employers find out about NTU as a training provider, the benefits of an apprenticeship, the recruitment process and guidance on sector-specific courses. Businesses can sign up here.

There is also an Apprenticeships Open Day on 9 February held in conjunction with Nottingham College. The open day gives employers an opportunity to learn more about NTU apprenticeships, by engaging with short presentations, joining a live panel discussion and networking with current apprenticeship employers. Employers will also have the chance to have one-to-one conversations with the NTU Apprenticeship team, current partners and industry experts.

NTU offers higher and degree apprenticeships developed in collaboration with industry experts, from levels 3-7, across eight industry areas:  Business and Administration, Childcare and Education, Construction, Digital, Food and Drink, Health and Science, Law and Social Work.

Michelle Place, Apprenticeships and Widening Participation Lead at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, which is an existing NTU Apprenticeship partner, said: “Without Apprenticeships, which allow us to recruit and train differently, we would have been unable to innovate. For our existing staff we now have a variety of subjects that they can study, to enable them to develop in their role, and gain skills to enable them to progress.

“The partnership with NTU has enhanced our programmes, because of our close working relationship, and our continuous dialogue. This relationship is key to the success of delivery and in our apprentices succeeding in their studies.”

Bethany Pass, currently studying a Level 6 Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprentice at NTU and working at Ideagen in Nottingham, said: “I strongly believe without the opportunity this apprenticeship has given me I wouldn’t be in the role I am today. It allowed me to enter a new industry and gain the skills I needed to kick start my career. In my current role the apprenticeship has really motivated me to push myself and always seek new challenges in the workplace so I can apply what I’m learning and even share some of that learning with my colleagues.”

David Drury, Degree Apprenticeships Manager at Nottingham Trent University, said: “Our events as part of National Apprenticeship Week are a great opportunity to connect employers and apprentices together. It provides employers access to a large number of talented, driven and ambitious students and all the information they need to consider taking on an apprentice. We are proud to have more than 500 employers working with us and over 1,800 apprentices and hope more employers will take the opportunity to discover the benefits of having an apprentice work with them.”
