One of our Fashion Knitwear and Knitted Textiles students, Meredith Adams, has set up her own business on her placement year that produces sustainable, zero-waste garments, ‘Handmade by Meredith’. She offers consumers a guilt-free alternative to modern-day consumerism ‘throw away’ culture.

'My business idea came from the love I have for knitting, the planet and the desire to have custom made pieces that perfectly fit your body type. Not one of us are the same and neither are my jumpers. This makes every item slightly different and creates the perfect imperfections, to embrace your individuality. The team at the new Dryden enterprise centre have been amazing with all the questions I have had about setting up my business. There has been a range of challenges I have faced when starting up, for example, getting sales and getting my products seen by consumers. However, being vocal on my social media platforms has helped hugely and I am starting to see a return to all the hard work and effort/costs I have invested over my placement year. My inspiration comes from current trends or personal taste in fashion, and I love the bright and the bold. I also don't shy away from different textures and mediums.'

Fast fashion has a shocking impact on our planet, and small brands like Meredith’s are doing their bit to change the way we consume fashion products. Keep up the great work Meredith!
