Role
Having been at NTU since the beginning of 2024, Jamie has further developed and progressed the high standards of the Strength and Conditioning department, initiating and driving key projects aimed at continuing to improve the level of performance for all NTU athletes, and developing partnerships with external stakeholders and companies to ensure NTU is at the forefront of investing time, effort, and resource into our student athletes.
Fully accredited by the UKSCA, Jamie oversees the S&C for all the NTU Performance Squads, NTU Sport Scholars, Development Sports, and TASS athletes. Jamie is also responsible for the continued growth and success of the NTU S&C undergraduate placement programme, that runs concurrently with university studies, and which aims to provide real-world experience and learnings from a structured curriculum for all students interested in a career in S&C.
Career overview
As an alumnus of NTU, Jamie has spent over a decade in elite/professional sport as both a player, and an S&C coach, experiencing a wide variety of sports, from Rugby Union to Para-Swimming, and some of the biggest and high-profile sporting events in the world, most notably the Tokyo 2021 Paralympic Games.
Spanning 8 years, Jamie had a successful career in Rugby Union, playing with and against future international players, and against of the most recognised clubs in the UK. During this time, Jamie developed his passion and skills as a Strength and Conditioning coach, continuing to improve his knowledge and research, and establish his philosophy of creating an athlete-focused, evidence-based environment.
Following the conclusion of his dual role career, Jamie worked with British Swimming, leading the S&C and Physical preparation for Paralympic, and Olympic, athletes at various European and World Championships, as well as the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Over 7 years, Jamie was part of the team that contributed record high medal totals at the London World Championships and being GB’s highest medal-winning sport at the Tokyo Games.
External activity
Jamie is passionate about fitness and has taken part in 2 Hyrox events to date. He has also recently taken up golf and BJJ (recreationally) with varying success. Outside of sport, Jamie has recently moved house and is currently in full renovation mode.
