Role

Dr. Jessie Pswarayi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of HRM at NBS. Her research focuses on the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusive practices of ethnic minority and international students studying in UK higher education institutions.

Jessie brings professional and academic expertise and knowledge as an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Her commitment to learning, teaching, and assessment has earned her the title of Senior Fellow in Higher Education. With this, she actively participates and contributes to Teaching and Scholarship.

Jessie’s teaching and scholarship interests are diverse, covering areas such as the experiences of minoritised and international students, inclusive learning, teaching, and assessment, as well as equality of progression for academic and professional services staff. Notable projects include investigating the experiences of international, minoritised, and Black students within higher education contexts, as well as the impact of educators in managing the spaces in which these students exist.
She has dedicated her time to leading projects on decolonising and internationalising the curriculum, as well as analysing the implications of policies that could support Black and minoritised academics in progressing to leadership or management roles in higher education.
Jessie has been part of a research team investigating complex issues related to promotion and progression for people of colour in professional services within higher education institutions, as well as the Association of Heads of University Administration in 2025.

Jessie has previously worked at other large institutions where she developed her teaching, learning, and assessment skills. She developed her networks and collaborations in both higher education and across the private, public, and third sectors.

Research areas

Jessie is committed to developing and supporting inclusive learning, teaching, and assessment.  Her research interests overlap  across  international and minoritised students, migrant workers, and human resources.

External activity

Jessie serves as the co-lead for the British Academy of Management, BAM MKE - Inclusive Education (BAM) Operationalizing a strategic intent to reduce award gaps.
