Materials Research Network

The Materials Research Network is University-wide and multidisciplinary, for staff with a shared interest in materials related research. Each of the University's nine Schools are represented with staff working collaboratively within and beyond their own academic community engaging with research and development projects that have practical applications and real-world impact.

The network currently has a membership of over 60 with staff from across the University. Currently, areas of interest and research activity include:

  • Healthcare
  • Energy
  • The environment
  • Textiles
  • Communication – displays / lighting
  • Plastics
  • Packaging
  • Data management
  • Sensors/sensing materials
  • Nanotechnology

Future directions

The materials research network is a new and ambitious innovation that aims to bring together researchers who share an interest in materials. It also extends as a research hub connecting with higher education institutions, funding bodies and private enterprise worldwide.

We are developing a fully functional web presence over the coming months which will make it much easier to communicate and engage with colleagues and external partners including innovation networks and knowledge transfer networks. The website will also:

  • include a system to distribute funding calls
  • advertise upcoming materials related events
  • share the latest news and links to researchers' profiles.

If you would like any further information about the materials research network or would like to join, please email us.
