Carbon Elephant

Carbon Elephant

Carbon Elephant is an NTU initiative which aims to get staff and students involved in the University's plans to reduce our carbon emissions. The University has committed to reducing our carbon footprint 48% by 2020/21.

This is a huge task – hence the name of the initiative. In this section you can find out more about how we hope to do this.

Ucycle scheme

We run a bike hire scheme for all staff and students where you can hire a bike from just £40 a year. Or you can buy one and get money off through Cyclescheme.

Green Gown Award

NTU has won a prestigious Green Gown award for our excellence in sustainability. Find out more in this video.

Waste not...

NTU currently recycles more than 90% of the waste we produce.

This recycling led to our waste actually having a negative carbon footprint of -200 tonnes!

In the recent Brackenhurst library rebuild, less than 1% of the waste produced went to landfill. The rest was crushed up and reused for other construction projects.
